Ignition is a web development company which has been established in Auckland since 2008. They needed a website refresh to showcase their work and continue their growth in the 2020s.
While working for them as a consultant, I was tasked with giving a new look to the site, something more friendly and less tech-heavy but using existing branding colours to keep the company identity and heritage. I chose a more rounded serif font for the main headlines and matched to the typeface we used in their updated logo.
We chose to use illustrations to keep things light-hearted, using an astronaut which ties in with the theme of Ignition being about rockets/exploration and a rubber duck which refers to ’rubber-ducking’ a method of debugging code or working through a problem, by explaining it line by line out loud to a rubber duck.
Using CSS only, we added just a hint of animation to enhance the astronaut in space. Both of these aspects really underlined the change in approach and showcased the more playful side of the company.
